On Tuesday, June 22 at approximately 14:45 hours, Pleasant Gap Fire Company was dispatched on a mutual aid assignment with Bellefonte Fire Dept. to the 2300-block of Zion Road in Spring Township for a Dwelling Fire. Crews arrived on scene to find a well-involved house fire. Pleasant Gap crews performed RIT tasks, assisted with fire suppression, and performed overhaul tasks. Crews operated on scene for approximately 2 hours.

Mutual Aid: Mifflin County (Reedsville): Dairyland
At approximately 10:30 hours on Friday, June 3, 2011, an engine-rescue was requested by Mifflin County to assist with fighting a well-involved structure fire at Dairyland in Reedsville, Mifflin County. Engine-rescue 814 responded to the scene (along with several other Centre County companies, including Bellefonte (Undines) and Alpha Fire Company) to assist with overhaul. 814′s crew operated on scene for several hours, and returned to the station at 14:00 hours.

Fully Involved Barn Fire
At approximately 5:45, Company 8 was dispatched to Breon’s Lane, Benner Twp for an unknown fire. Chief 804 arrived on scene to find a fully involved barn fire and upgraded the box as appropriate. Companies 1, 2, 4, 5, 8 and 16 worked to bring the fire under control. Engine 111 transferred to Station 8 while Company 8 remained on scene to complete overhaul. Ambulance 8 was also on scene.

Mutual Aid: Alpha Fire Company – Structure Fire on Gerald St
Company 5 was dispatched at 18:29 for a dwelling fire with reports of smoke coming from the windows and roof. State College PD arrived on scene and reported heavy smoke from the second floor of a townhouse. After the report from PD, 501 (Kuchmay) added Engine 810 from Pleasant Gap and Rescue 318 from Boalsburg. 540 (S. Clouser) arrived on scene and confirmed PDs report. Engine 510 went on the road with 5 volunteers within 2 minutes. Engine 510 arrived on scene with 5 minutes, secured its own water supply and crews stretched a line to the interior. Quint 527 arrived shortly after and threw multiple ground ladders and assisted the engine crew. Truck 517 assisted in opening up and ventilation. Crews went back into service in under 1 hour. Mutual Aid: Patient Transport; Landing Zone Operations
On Saturday, May 7 at 23:08hrs Company 8 was dispatched for a single vehicle crash. Company 8 was requested to send an engine to set up a landing zone at the Centre Hall Elementary School. Engine/Rescue 814 responded with a crew of 5. Ambulances 850 and 851 were also on this accident, transporting 2 of the 5 patients. LifeFlight 2 flew the first patient from 850, and Stat Medivac 9 took another patient from Ambulance 25. Crews operated on scene until just after midnight. (Nick Giacobe contributed to this article.)

At approximately 00:45, fire and EMS crews were dispatched to 700 Block of South Main Street for a motor vehicle accident: one vehicle into the embankment with one patient. Crews operated on scene for approximately one hour.

At approximately 15:00, fire and EMS crews were dispatched to Stover Road for a motor vehicle accident: one vehicle into a tree with one injury. Crews operated on scene for approximately 30 minutes.?

Supporting a Good Cause: Firefighter 5K Run/Walk
On Saturday, April 16, Engine 810 and Ambulance 852, along with various apparatus from area fire and EMS companies, lined West Branch Road to support the Firefighter 5K Run/Walk event. Several PGFD members and their families also participated in the run/walk event. The event was held to support local emergency personnel in their time of need, with this year’s beneficiary being Company 8 firefighter and Safety Officer Gregg Heny.
