Hazmat incident at Restek

On November 19, 2011 at approximately 1245 hours, Pleasant Gap Fire Company was alerted to assist Bellefonte Fire Department at a hazardous materials incident at Restek, 110 Benner Circle in Benner Township. Rescue 818 assisted the Hazmat team with staffing, donning and the entry corridor, as well as supplied air refill for SCBA cylinders.

Units on the box were Rescue 818, Engines 111 and 114, Ambulance 26 and Hazmat 2029. Units operated on scene for just under three hours.



Specialized Rescue in the Village of Peru

At approximately 1850 hours on November 18, 2011, Pleasant Gap Fire Company was alerted to assist EMS with a specialized rescue to the rear of a residence on West College Avenue in the Village of Peru (Benner Township). A woman had fallen down a steep embankment while walking her dog.

Rescue 818 responded with a crew of eight, set up lighting and a haul system. Firefighters from the rescue assisted in packaging the patient on a backboard and then into the stokes basket. Firefighters brought the patient up to the top of the embankment and transferred her to the ambulance litter.

On the box were Rescue 818, Ambulance 852. Chief 802 (T. Royer) had the command. Crews operated on scene for just under an hour.

Standby at Station 5 for Jack Zook’s Funeral

On October 19, 2011, Pleasant Gap Fire Company was requested to standby at Alpha Fire Company, Station 5 while members attended the funeral of Jack Zook. Engine/Rescue 814 transferred with a crew of six from 12:00 to 16:30 hours. The residents of State College and surrounding townships were well-behaved for our visit and held all emergencies until after our standby was over.

2nd Annual Firefighter’s Challenge. PG takes 3rd

This weekend the 2nd annual Firefighter’s Challenge was held at the Centre County Fire Training Center. A team from Pleasant Gap consisting of Mike Marini, Derek Hoover, and Clint Ripka competed in the event. Their first run had beat the course record, however, their time was overtaken by the Logans (Bellefonte), in the second round. “The Gappers” brought home the 3rd place trophy. Congratulations to the team on their excellent work, and good exhibition of the skills of our fire department.

Mutual Aid – Structure Fire in Bellefonte

On 8/23/2011 just before 2PM, Pleasant Gap Fire Company was alerted for a mutual aid call to assist the Bellefonte Fire Department at 127 Waites Hill Road at the scene of a well-involved garage fire. Engine/Rescue 814 set up a fill site and Rescue 818 operated at the scene performing RIT and then overhaul duties.

Vehicle Fire

At approximately 17:44 hours, Pleasant Gap Fire Company was dispatched to the 200-block of Gwenedd Lane in the Steeplechase Development for fertilizer truck fire.  Chief 800 arrived on scene to find a large truck carrying a load of straw that was burning.  Crews extinguished the fire and operated on scene for approximately 20 minutes.
