At approximately 10:30 hours on Friday, June 3, 2011, an engine-rescue was requested by Mifflin County to assist with fighting a well-involved structure fire at Dairyland in Reedsville, Mifflin County. Engine-rescue 814 responded to the scene (along with several other Centre County companies, including Bellefonte (Undines) and Alpha Fire Company) to assist with overhaul. 814′s crew operated on scene for several hours, and returned to the station at 14:00 hours.

Fully Involved Barn Fire
At approximately 5:45, Company 8 was dispatched to Breon’s Lane, Benner Twp for an unknown fire. Chief 804 arrived on scene to find a fully involved barn fire and upgraded the box as appropriate. Companies 1, 2, 4, 5, 8 and 16 worked to bring the fire under control. Engine 111 transferred to Station 8 while Company 8 remained on scene to complete overhaul. Ambulance 8 was also on scene.

Mutual Aid: Alpha Fire Company – Structure Fire on Gerald St
Company 5 was dispatched at 18:29 for a dwelling fire with reports of smoke coming from the windows and roof. State College PD arrived on scene and reported heavy smoke from the second floor of a townhouse. After the report from PD, 501 (Kuchmay) added Engine 810 from Pleasant Gap and Rescue 318 from Boalsburg. 540 (S. Clouser) arrived on scene and confirmed PDs report. Engine 510 went on the road with 5 volunteers within 2 minutes. Engine 510 arrived on scene with 5 minutes, secured its own water supply and crews stretched a line to the interior. Quint 527 arrived shortly after and threw multiple ground ladders and assisted the engine crew. Truck 517 assisted in opening up and ventilation. Crews went back into service in under 1 hour. Mutual Aid: Patient Transport; Landing Zone Operations
On Saturday, May 7 at 23:08hrs Company 8 was dispatched for a single vehicle crash. Company 8 was requested to send an engine to set up a landing zone at the Centre Hall Elementary School. Engine/Rescue 814 responded with a crew of 5. Ambulances 850 and 851 were also on this accident, transporting 2 of the 5 patients. LifeFlight 2 flew the first patient from 850, and Stat Medivac 9 took another patient from Ambulance 25. Crews operated on scene until just after midnight. (Nick Giacobe contributed to this article.)

At approximately 00:45, fire and EMS crews were dispatched to 700 Block of South Main Street for a motor vehicle accident: one vehicle into the embankment with one patient. Crews operated on scene for approximately one hour.

At approximately 15:00, fire and EMS crews were dispatched to Stover Road for a motor vehicle accident: one vehicle into a tree with one injury. Crews operated on scene for approximately 30 minutes.?

Mutual Aid Assigment: Tanker Fire/Hazmat
At approximately 3:39 AM, a number of fire companies, including Pleasant Gap Fire Co., were dispatched to I-99 southbound (just before MM76/Shiloh Road) for a truck fire. Upon arrival, crews found a two-truck accident, including a tanker carrying 8,000 gallons of ethanol (on fire). After determining that the trailer was indeed carrying ethanol, crews cooled the tanker with massive amounts of water, then attacked the fire with foam to smother it out. Standby Assignment: Clinton County, Dunnstown Station 5
On Monday, April 11, a special crew transferred to Clinton County Station 5 (Dunnstown) for a standby assignment while Clinton County crews attended a memorial service for Dunnstown’s past chief Chuck Rine. The crew ran a single call for a tree into the power lines. The Pleasant Gap Fire Company family extends thoughts and prayers to Chief Rine’s family during this difficult time.

Standby Assignment for Alpha Fire Company
On Saturday, April 9, a special crew transferred to Alpha Fire Company to standby at their station while the Alpha members attended their annual banquet. While on standby, crews covered three calls: At 21:34 units were dispatched for fire box 543 for a report of a smoke detector activation in Patton Township, with nothing found upon arriving on scene. At 22:33 units were dispatched for fire box 521 for a report of a smoke detector activation in College Township. 814 manned the fire station while other standby crews responded. At 23:40 units were dispatched for fire box 521 for a building fire in State College Borough for a report of smoke on the second and third floors with a smoke alarm sounding. After arriving there was a light smoke condition inside the building due to burnt food. Units used fans to ventilate. FF/EMT Rob Bressler contributed to this article.

Standby Assignment for Centre Lifelink EMS
On Friday, April 8, a special ambulance crew transferred to Station 25 (Centre Lifelink EMS) to cover first due calls while their crews attended their annual banquet. The crew would like to extend their thanks for the hospitality of the officers and staff at Centre Lifelink EMS while they were at their station.
