Mutual Aid – House Fire in Milesburg

On Saturday, March 24th at 2106 hours, the Pleasant Gap Fire Company was alerted to assist Milesburg Fire Company for a 2nd Alarm dwelling fire. Rescue 818 responded with a crew of 6. 818 took the RIT assignment for the first operational period. At the end of that period, Chief 900 asked us to mitigate the risk of the front porch falling. Crews removed the roof of the front porch and cleared the entrance on side A of the structure from the remaining debris. Prior to being released, our crew switched to overhaul and worked the main stairwell and first division.

Other units on this call included Companies 2, 6, 9 and 14 as well as Ambulance 26 and Medic 24.

Mutual Aid for a Structure Fire in Howard

On December 21, 2011 at approximately 6:45 am, Company 8 was dispatched for the Rescue to a in Curtin Twp for a garage fire with extension into the residence.

Rescue 818 responded with a crew of eight (8) under the supervision of Chief 800 (G. Royer). Upon arrival, the crew reported to staging and quickly found assignments replacing spent interior crews.

To supplement water supply, command also called Company 8 for a tanker. 819 responded with a crew of two, arrived on scene and staged before being released.

818 remained on scene for a total of approximately two and a half hours before being placed available by command.

Other units on this box were Engine 1410, Rescue 1418, Truck 216, E/R 914, E/R 1614, Clinton Engine 9, Clinton Ambulance 9-8-2 and several tankers.

Mutual Aid for Chimney Fire in Centre Hall

On December 20, 2011, at 12:03 am, Company 8 was dispatched to provide mutual aid to Company 4 (Centre Hall) for a chimney fire with extension.

Engine/Rescue 814 responded with a crew of 6, including Chief 800 (G. Royer) and Joe Ault with his first incident as an engine operator. 814 staged on scene for a period of time, then was transferred to Station 4 to cover for Centre Hall.

Hazmat incident at Restek

On November 19, 2011 at approximately 1245 hours, Pleasant Gap Fire Company was alerted to assist Bellefonte Fire Department at a hazardous materials incident at Restek, 110 Benner Circle in Benner Township. Rescue 818 assisted the Hazmat team with staffing, donning and the entry corridor, as well as supplied air refill for SCBA cylinders.

Units on the box were Rescue 818, Engines 111 and 114, Ambulance 26 and Hazmat 2029. Units operated on scene for just under three hours.

Mutual Aid – Structure Fire in Bellefonte

On 8/23/2011 just before 2PM, Pleasant Gap Fire Company was alerted for a mutual aid call to assist the Bellefonte Fire Department at 127 Waites Hill Road at the scene of a well-involved garage fire. Engine/Rescue 814 set up a fill site and Rescue 818 operated at the scene performing RIT and then overhaul duties.

Mutual Aid: Dwelling Fire, Spring Township

On Tuesday, June 22 at approximately 14:45 hours, Pleasant Gap Fire Company was dispatched on a mutual aid assignment with Bellefonte Fire Dept. to the 2300-block of Zion Road in Spring Township for a Dwelling Fire.  Crews arrived on scene to find a well-involved house fire.  Pleasant Gap crews performed RIT tasks, assisted with fire suppression, and performed overhaul tasks.  Crews operated on scene for approximately 2 hours.

Mutual Aid: Mifflin County (Reedsville): Dairyland

At approximately 10:30 hours on Friday, June 3, 2011, an engine-rescue was requested by Mifflin County to assist with fighting a well-involved structure fire at Dairyland in Reedsville, Mifflin County.  Engine-rescue 814 responded to the scene (along with several other Centre County companies, including Bellefonte (Undines) and Alpha Fire Company) to assist with overhaul.  814′s crew operated on scene for several hours, and returned to the station at 14:00 hours.

Mutual Aid: Alpha Fire Company – Structure Fire on Gerald St

Company 5 was dispatched at 18:29 for a dwelling fire with reports of smoke coming from the windows and roof. State College PD arrived on scene and reported heavy smoke from the second floor of a townhouse. After the report from PD, 501 (Kuchmay) added Engine 810 from Pleasant Gap and Rescue 318 from Boalsburg.  540 (S. Clouser) arrived on scene and confirmed PDs report. Engine 510 went on the road with 5 volunteers within 2 minutes. Engine 510 arrived on scene with 5 minutes, secured its own water supply and crews stretched a line to the interior. Quint 527 arrived shortly after and threw multiple ground ladders and assisted the engine crew. Truck 517 assisted in opening up and ventilation. Crews went back into service in under 1 hour. Mutual Aid Assigment: Tanker Fire/Hazmat

At approximately 3:39 AM, a number of fire companies, including Pleasant Gap Fire Co., were dispatched to I-99 southbound (just before MM76/Shiloh Road) for a truck fire.  Upon arrival, crews found a two-truck accident, including a tanker carrying 8,000 gallons of ethanol (on fire).  After determining that the trailer was indeed carrying ethanol, crews cooled the tanker with massive amounts of water, then attacked the fire with foam to smother it out.  Crews remained on scene until 2:30 PM (the following afternoon).  (Read more about the accident on the Centre Daily Times: <First Story> <Second Story>)

Standby Assignment: Clinton County, Dunnstown Station 5

On Monday, April 11, a special crew transferred to Clinton County Station 5 (Dunnstown) for a standby assignment while Clinton County crews attended a memorial service for Dunnstown’s past chief Chuck Rine.  The crew ran a single call for a tree into the power lines.  The Pleasant Gap Fire Company family extends thoughts and prayers to Chief Rine’s family during this difficult time.
